DIXON – No one was injured in a house fire Sunday evening at 1028 W. Third St. that started on the first floor and took firefighters about 2 hours to control.

"The structure is standing. There is lots of fire damage to the second floor, and water damage throughout the house," Dixon Fire Chief Tim Shipman said.

No one was home at the time of the fire, Shipman said.

Firefighters were called at 5:33 p.m. Sunday, and left the scene about 9:30 p.m. The fire spread to the second floor and attic of the Victorian style home owned by Jeffery Musgrave, 56, of Dixon. Shipman said Musgrave's son, Austin, 23, lives in the home with his family.

The chief said the family was displaced by the fire, but turned down assistance from the Red Cross and told firefighters they could stay with relatives.

"We feel confident it was possibly a heating type appliance, based on a preliminary investigation and talking with the residents." Shipman said. "The house was insured, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated."

The family is asking for financial help on gofundme.com. On the page, Kayla Lynn Steder writes that the house "was supposed to be the house we raised our children in. Unfortunately, we ended up losing everything." She said their daughter, Ry, is 1 year old and the couple is expecting another child.
