It’s hunting season, so the McHenry County Conservation District is asking anyone out hiking to wear bright-colored clothes.
The district announced several weekends in fall and winter when some of its lands will be closed for recreational hunting.
From Nov. 3 to 5 and Nov. 10 to 12, Hickory Grove Riverfront & Highlands, Lyons Prairie, Silver Creek and Stickney Run all will be closed. From Nov. 17 to 19, Coral Woods and Marengo Woods will be closed. From Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, Glacial Park & Lost Valley Visitor Center and Rush Creek will be closed.
Also, from Nov. 1 to Jan. 14, the Brookdale Multi-Use trail, High Point, Fox Bluff and Winding Creek district sites all will be closed.
The district is reminding residents that hunting also may be occurring on private property.
When hiking, the district is asking residents to wear blaze orange if possible, and to avoid wearing white, blacks, browns, earth-toned greens and animal-colored clothing.
“Choose colors that stand out, like red, orange or green,” the district said in a news release. “Blaze orange vests and hats are advisable.”
