John H. ‘Pete’ Cumby Jr.

ROCK FALLS – John H. “Pete” Cumby Jr., 62, of Rock Falls, was found deceased Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, in Gilpin County, Colorado.

He was born Sept. 21, 1954, in Sterling, to John (Linda) Cumby Sr. and Mellie Crowe. He was a 1972 graduate of Rock Falls High School. He joined the Navy in 1972, and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago. He liked traveling and camping. No one was a stranger to him.

He is survived by his son, John (Marvella) Cumby III; daughter, Rosie (Enrique) Cumby of Lakewood, Colorado; mother, Mellie Crowe of Rock Falls; stepmother, Linda Cumby; brother, Steve Cumby; sisters, Josie (Dennis) Gaskill and Pamela (Ed) Davis of Tampico, Vickie (Dennis) Huffman of Rock Falls, and Tammy (Mark) Naftzger of Deland, Florida; four nephews; one niece; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Lofton; father, John Cumby Sr.; stepfather, Chauncy Crowe; and sister, Macie Thomas.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Open Bible Church in Rock Falls, with Pastor Les Funderberg officiating.
