BOLINGBROOK – A Bolingbrook man arrested Wednesday by Bolingbrook police was put on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement temporary hold, according to Will County jail records.
On Thursday, Bolingbrook police Lt. Anthony Columbus said that the department had launched an ongoing investigation into the sale of narcotics from a residence in the 300 block of Hanover Drive. Upon the completion of that investigation, Columbus said, police, who had obtained a search warrant, raided the residence on Wednesday
Upon entering to the home, officers located Victor Gonzalez-Carapia, 24, and cocaine.
Gonzalez-Carapia was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.
The 300 block of Hanover Drive, where Gonzalez-Carapia resides, according to county jail records, is only a few hundred yards from Bernard J. Ward Elementary School.
ICE failed to respond to messages requesting information on the immigration hold put on Gonzalez-Carapia. The Will County Sheriff’s Office also failed to respond.
A public defender was appointed to Gonzalez-Carapia’s case, and Gonzalez-Carapia’s bond was set at $50,000 during a Thursday afternoon hearing at the Will County courthouse.
Even if Gonzalez-Carapia was able to post the $5,000 bond needed for his release, he would remain in the county jail until he could be taken into custody by ICE agents.
