Sycamore dealership employee charged with possession of a stolen vehicle

DeKALB – A 21-year-old DeKalb man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a vehicle that was stolen from the Sycamore dealership where he worked, police said.

Avery D. Pipes, of the 1100 block of West Hillcrest Drive, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and was released Tuesday afternoon from the DeKalb County Jail after posting $1,500 bail.

Sycamore police Cmdr. Steve Cook said a 2006 Nissan Altima was reported stolen May 22 from the DeKalb-Sycamore Chevrolet GMC dealership at 1925 Mercantile Drive.

The vehicle was entered into a police database, and police found it five days later parked on South Calumet Avenue in Chicago, he said.

Police processed and collected evidence from the vehicle, which will be returned to the dealership, Cook said.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Pipes on June 22, and he was arrested at his home in DeKalb at
11 a.m. Tuesday, Cook said.
