MORRISON – A fundraising campaign began today to help pay funeral expenses for a Morrison woman shot and killed a week ago.

Kaylene Schroeder, 18, of Walnut, established the GoFundMe account and set a goal of $11,000.

Peggy Sue Schroeder, 53, was shot in the head by Kaylene’s 15-year-old sister, Anna Schroeder, Thursday evening, police said.

Anna and her girlfriend, Rachel Helm, 15, of Rock Falls, decided to burn the house down to destroy evidence of the crime, police said.

Peggy’s body was found Saturday afternoon in her burning home at 805 W. Park St.

Anna is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, concealment of a homicidal death and arson. Rachel, who police say set the fire, has not yet been formally charged.

Both girls were being held at the Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg, and both have court appearances Aug. 8.

Peggy worked at the Wahl Clipper Service Center, 3001 N. Locust St. in Sterling, and cleaned churches, Kaylene has said.

“A sudden tragedy of my mom’s death has hit my family hard,” she wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“She opened her arms to anyone and everyone. She absolutely loved to garden and loved to collect Longaberger baskets. We are hoping to raise money for her funeral and other expenses that may come down later down the road.”

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, $1,460 had been raised.
