George A. Poulos

AMBOY – George Andrew Poulos, 73, of Amboy, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was a truck driver before retirement.

George was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Dixon, the son of Peter and Letha (Glenn) Poulos. He married Nettie Hardy on April 27, 2001, in Dixon. George served in the Army from Oct. 26, 1960, to Oct. 25, 1963, and re-enlisted during the Vietnam War, serving from April 5, 1966 to Feb. 20, 1970. He was a member of American Legion Post 453 in Amboy, VietNow, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed American Veterans, and a lifetime member of Amvets.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie Poulos of Amboy; four stepchildren, Donald, Tina, Denton, and Christ; one sister, Elaine (Wayne) Swanson of Surprise, Arizona; one sister-in-law, Rose (Poulos), and her husband, Richard McBurney of Fulton; five grandchildren, Austin, Donta, Wesley, Miles, and Juliet; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, William, and Peter “Jerry” Poulos; and three sisters, Letha M., Olga, and MaryDell (neé Poulos) Reyes.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Brozenec, Pastor Mark Glenn, and Pastor Larry Glenn co-officiating. Burial, with full military graveside honors accorded by the combined veterans organizations, will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Veteran’s Memorial Parks in Dixon and Amboy and Teen Turf in Amboy.
