WOODSTOCK – Police have arrested an Addison man on felony theft charges after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes during three separate burglaries of the same Jewel-Osco store in Woodstock over the course of three months.
Sanaullah Mir, 38, of the 600 block of Katherine Lane, Addison, was charged Wednesday with three counts of retail theft of items worth more than $300. Mir already was in custody at the Kane County Jail, according to a news release from the Woodstock Police Department.
He had been charged with burglary in Kane County, according to Kane County records.
Mir is accused of stealing about $3,300 worth of cigarettes over the course of three separate burglaries during the early morning and late evening hours at the Woodstock Jewel-Osco, police said.
The Woodstock Police Department responded to the Woodstock Jewel-Osco store on Eastwood Drive on three different dates – Jan. 17, Feb. 10 and March 10 – in response to reports of retail theft. A suspect was seen on security tapes stealing large amounts of cigarettes, police said.
After speaking with other local law enforcement agencies, investigators suspect the man committed similar crimes at other Jewel stores, police said.
Mir’s bond has been set at $60,000.
His next court date for these charges has yet to be set.
