CAMPTON TOWNSHIP – A motorist was charged with attempting to elude police after a brief high speed chase, which ended with the driver pulling over and surrendering with his hands up, stated sheriff’s reports.
Richard A. Spizzirri, 47, of the 6N080 block of Knollwood Drive, Campton Township, was charged April 20 after he passed a deputy traveling 82 miles an hour on Empire Road in Campton Township shortly before 2 p.m., reports stated.
The officer gave chase to Spizzirri’s 2014 Cadillac SRX SUV, following him through several turns from Brierwood Drive to Sunset Drive then back to Brierwood Drive, where he finally stopped at 6N110 Brierwood, reports stated.
Spizzirri put his hands in the “stick-em-up” position and said, “I give up,” reports stated. Spizzirri was wanted on two warrants from Will County and one from DuPage County, reports stated.
When the deputy asked him whether he was trying to flee because of the warrants, Spizzirri replied, “No, I was just being stupid,” reports stated.
The charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police is a misdemeanor, but conviction results in the suspension of the driver’s license for up to six months, according to state statutes.
Spizzirri was also charged with speeding 26 to 34 miles above the posted speed limit and was released on personal recognizance bonds. He is scheduled to appear in court June 7 on both charges, court records show.
