Gene Gustafson

TISKILWA — Gene Gustafson, 82, of Tiskilwa passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, in his home surrounded by his family.

Gene was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Princeton to Malcolm and Alma (Magnuson) Gustafson. He married Betty Jo Lauritzen on March 21, 1957, in the Tiskilwa Baptist Church.

He had worked for the Co-op Feed Service in Princeton, the village of Tiskilwa and had been a custodian for the Tiskilwa School Systems until his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Tiskilwa Community Church and he had served on the Tiskilwa Village Board for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Gustafson of Tiskilwa; his children, Jill (Joseph) Kunkel of Wyanet, Jack (Laurie) Gustafson of Wyanet, Rick (Beth Ann) Gustafson of Houston, Texas, Buzz (Tammy) Gustafson of Wyanet and Lisa Gustafson of Ottawa; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris (Wilbur) Giltner of Princeton; and his two brothers, Robert Gustafson of LaSalle and Gerald Gustafson of Carlyle.

He was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; a daughter, Nancy Jo (Gustafson) Funderberg; and a granddaughter in infancy.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Tiskilwa Community Church with the Rev. John Gray officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Mt. Bloom Cemetery in Tiskilwa.

His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the chapel of the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home in Princeton.

Memorials may be directed to the Tiskilwa Community Church or the Tiskilwa Ambulance Service.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
