Crystal Lake couple bought $2.25 million Lotto ticket in Cary

CRYSTAL LAKE – Lottery officials Tuesday announced that a Crystal Lake couple won a $2,250,000 Lotto jackpot prize when their ticket matched all six numbers – 2-11-31-36-37-48 – in a recent drawing.

Roy and Gail Voigt won the prize in the Nov. 17 drawing, Illinois Lottery officials said.

“We are shocked that we won! It hasn’t sunk in yet,” Gail Voigt said when they presented their winning ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Rockford.

The Voigts said they have been playing the same Lotto numbers for several years. “I just chose some random numbers and stuck with them,” Roy Voigt said.

A few weeks after the drawing, they checked the winning numbers on the Illinois Lottery website and discovered they had hit the jackpot. They plan to get professional financial advice and invest their windfall.

The winning ticket was bought at Thorntons, 800 Northwest Highway, Cary. The retailer received a bonus of $22,500, or 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket.

Lotto drawings take place at 9:22 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Saturday nights. For information, visit illinoislottery.com.
