In addition to providing superior care for patients needing long-term treatment and rehabilitation, RML Specialty Hospital provides benefits to many in the medical field, at both the Chicago and  Hinsdale locations.

Ken Pawola, Chief Operating Officer, has been with RML Specialty Hospital for the past 13 years.  “We provide education for nursing students, along with those training to become respiratory, physical, and occupational therapists,” he explained.  “We support their training by offering clinical rotations; students learn from our nurses and therapists, at no cost, and with no reimbursement to us.  RML Specialty Hospital offers this service to benefit those pursuing a degree in nursing or rehabilitation therapy.”  This year, over 200 students were able to perform clinical rotations at RML Specialty Hospital.

Another way RML Specialty Hospital benefits the community is by supporting research through Loyola Hospital.  “We’re the only long-term acute care hospital in the country to offer our facility as a study site for medical research,” added Pawola.  “These research studies, which are largely funded by the National Institute of Health, are focused on weaning patients from ventilators and helping patients obtain functional independence.  Since RML Specialty Hospital has the single largest ventilator patient population in the country, we are a terrific location for researchers to use to perform their studies.”

RML Specialty Hospital also benefits from the arrangement.  One study compared two different methods of ventilator weaning; the researchers identified one method as being superior, and RML Specialty Hospital adopted that method for use with their patients.

RML Specialty Hospital’s community support doesn’t end there; each December, employees work together to collect food, toys, and winter accessories for those in need.  The Hinsdale Community Center, the Angel Tree Foundation, Marillac House, and Off The Street Club are beneficiaries of these generous donations.  For more information about RML Specialty Hospital, please contact:
