Truckwurx triples shop space in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – Truckwurx is not your typical mechanic shop.

Like the name says, it only handles trucks – and Jeeps. Whether that’s gas or diesel, any daily driving truck will do.

Truckwurx will install rims, tires, lift kits, light bars, tinted windows and more. But they will also take care of general repairs such as brakes, oil changes, brake pads, wiper replacements and engine rebuilds.

"Our price is competitive with other shops," manager Dennis O'Brien said. "We want to build relationships with our customers and will work with you to make sure you're a repeat customer."

Owner Tyler Oldroyd started Truckwurx as an online business in 2011 out of Las Vegas, due to his connections in the diesel industry.

The company was strictly internet sales until 2012 when he moved his business to a 3,000 square-foot St. Charles warehouse on Dean Street. Back then it was essentially a “library of parts," Oldroyd said.

Oldroyd worked by himself, selling his parts off the shelves and over the internet.

While visiting the shop with a friend one day, O'Brien asked Oldroyd if he ever thought about installing the parts he sold. Shortly after that conversation, O'Brien and Oldroyd began a partnership and started installing parts. The business built up fast.

“We started taking down the shelves to make more room for vehicles,” O’Brien said. “We quickly put in a lift and I began working there full-time.”

In July 2016, Oldroyd’s wife was transferred to California, so he made O’Brien the manager of Truckwurx. At the same time they sold their original warehouse and moved to their new, 10,000 square-foot location at 1900 E. Tyler Road, Suite 400, St. Charles.

“We now have three lifts, two mechanics and a helper,” O’Brien said.  “We are also looking for another full-time mechanic to help us keep us with the demand.”

This is the first year the shop's profits have surpassed its online sales. Office manager Leanne Junod handles the website and scheduling portion of the business.

“We encourage the community to stop into the shop and check us out,” O’Brien said. “We have lots of people who come in to just check out the cool trucks we’re working on.”

O’Brien and Junod pride themselves on being very customer-oriented, laid-back and welcoming. The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 800-910-9497 for information.
