ST. CHARLES – In a loaded Class 2A St. Charles East sectional, Batavia senior Julianne Robinson and freshman Maddie Durso battled back from a semifinal loss and won their third-place match Oct. 15.
After falling against the eventual champs from Glenbard West, Robinson and Durso topped St. Charles North’s Shelby Thomas and Breanne Warner 6-1, 6-4 to improve their seeding for the state tournament, which begins Oct. 20.
As a team, the Bulldogs placed third with 15 points.
GIRLS TENNIS
St. Charles North
Sophomore Shelby Thomas and senior Breanne Warner fell in their last two doubles matches at the Class 2A St. Charles East sectional Oct. 15, but their fourth-place finish was good for a berth in the state tournament.
Geneva
The Vikings placed seventh at the St. Charles East sectional Oct. 15 and did not have any state qualifiers.
St. Charles East
The Saints scored eight points and placed sixth as a team at their own sectional Oct. 15 but did not have any players advance to state.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Batavia
With Sean Adams (fourth, 15:38) leading the way, the Bulldogs placed third at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet Oct. 15 at the Stuart Sports Complex in Aurora.
Damian Rodriguez (13th, 15:58), Shane Knanishu (14th, 15:59) and Jack Gillerlain (15th, 16:03) finished in a cluster, and Joseph Knanishu (17th, 16:03) wasn’t far back as he rounded out the scoring group.
The Bulldogs will compete in their own Class 3A regional at 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at Kress Creek Farm in West Chicago.
Geneva
Josh Rodgers ran to the title (15:20) and Ryan Kredell (third, 15:35) had a top-five showing as the Vikings won the championship at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet Oct. 15. Geneva edged St. Charles East 42-48 for the win.
Tyler Dau (seventh, 15:47) and Brian Kuehl (eighth, 15:49) added top-10 showings while Scott Creger (22nd, 16:14) and David Creger (23rd, 16:17) finished strong for Geneva, which will run in the Class 3A West Chicago regional at 10 a.m. Oct. 22.
Marmion
Top-five finishes by Michael Ronzone (second, 15:05), Charlie Zimmer (third, 15:09) and Sean Galle (fifth, 15:24) helped the Cadets take the team title at the Chicago Catholic League meet Oct. 15.
Marmion scored 45 points to finish ahead of St. Ignatius (54).
Andrew Lifka (14th, 15:50) and Jimmy Milder (22nd, 16:13) were also scoring runners, and Jack Brewster (23rd, 16:16) and Jake Harron (26th, 16:28) finished in the top-third of the field for Marmion, which will run at the Class 3A Batavia regional Oct. 22.
St. Charles East
Jake Beno (second, 15:23) had East’s top finish and Cole Adesso (sixth, 15:43) was top 10 to lead the way at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet Oct. 15.
Aidan King (11th, 15:52) and Daniel Werner (12th, 15:55) finished just ahead of JB Sandlund (17th, 16:03) to round out the scoring for the Saints, who will run in the West Chicago regional at 10 a.m. Oct. 22.
St. Charles North
Brett Lee (25th, 16:18) was North’s top finisher at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet Oct. 15 as the North Stars were sixth as a team. North competes in the West Chicago regional at 10 a.m. Oct. 22.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Batavia
Marygrace Golden (seventh, 18:25) and Audrey Pellico (eighth, 18:32) led the way for the Bulldogs at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet as Batavia (52 points) placed second to Geneva (40) in the team standings.
Alexa Andrews (11th, 18:36), Daphne Kolody (12th, 18:37) and Mia Gianfrancesco (14th, 18:40) rounded out the scoring for Batavia, which will run in its own regional at Kress Creek Farm in West Chicago at 2 p.m. Oct. 22.
Geneva
Sophia McDonnell (second, 17:58), Emma Ehrhardt (third, 18:00.18) and Andrine Larsen (fourth, 18:00.99) finished in a cluster to lead the Vikings to the team title at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet.
Geneva topped Batavia 40-52 for the title.
Taryn Christie (10th, 18:35) and Emily Belanger (21st, 18:59) were the other scoring runners for Geneva, which will run in the West Chicago regional at Kress Creek Farm at 11 a.m. Oct. 22.
Rosary
Claire Hengesbaugh ran to second place with a time of 18:32 to lead the way for the Royals at the GCAC meet Oct. 15.
Megan Ronzone (11th, 19:10) and Hannah Regan (16th, 19:20) were top 20 as Rosary placed third as a team.
Rosary will run in the Class 2A Hinsdale South regional at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Katherine Legge Park in Hinsdale.
St. Charles East
Anna Arrick (sixth, 18:20) was East’s top finisher at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet as the Saints placed third as a team with 88 points.
Klaudia Wyszynski (13th, 18:39) and Emma Battin (16th, 18:42) had top-20 showings for the Saints, who will run in the West Chicago regional at 11 a.m. Oct. 22.
St. Charles North
Audrey Ernst clocked a time of 17:55 to win the individual title at the combined Upstate Eight Conference meet.
Madison Kaufman (fifth, 18:19) had a top-five showing as North placed fourth as a team ahead of competing in the West Chicago regional at 11 a.m. Oct. 22.
