Butcher on the Block in Lake in the Hills may get big changes

Algonquin Road deli’s expansion nearly complete

LAKE IN THE HILLS – With Butcher on the Block getting closer to finishing its expansion, deli owner Tom Yucuis said he expects there to be several changes in a few weeks.

“After construction is complete, we’re going to reanalyze our business, possibly open for breakfast, change around hours and figure out how late we’d be open,” Yucuis said.

Expansion of the deli, 4660 W. Algonquin Road, Lake in the Hills, would allow for a full dining room area and add more space for employees to work in.

The expansion started in early August, as the deli plans to add the vacant storefront next door to its business. Butcher on the Block is currently at 1,600 square feet, but Yucuis said his deli would be at 4,300 square feet after construction. Along with more room for customers to dine in, the deli also plans to use the expansion for delivery purposes.

“We’re also going to get ourselves set up so we can deliver sandwiches to customers,” Yucuis said. “As a result, we’re not only going to expand our space from within but from outside of it, too.”

Yucuis said the deli’s expansion could have been completed within two weeks, but that would have required the deli to close during that time.

“What we’re trying to do is expand the deli without closing, so a lot of the work is being done at night to not disappoint our customer base,” Yucuis said. “We wanted to keep it open for our customers.”

Butcher on the Block has been serving a variety of meats and seafood items to its customers since it opened in July 2000. Yucuis said expansion should be done around the end of August.

“All the work we’re doing here is because our customers suggested the changes,” Yucuis said.
