PRINCETON — On July 22, a Princeton male was sentenced to 19 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) on two concurrent sentences.
Gregory M. Hall, 37, of Princeton was sentenced to 16 years in the IDOC for the Class 2 felony offense of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance — Count II — and three years in the IDOC for the Class 4 felony offense of unlawful possession of a controlled substance — Count III. Hall is also ordered to pay fines, fees and costs totaling $7,957 in Count I and $1,930 for Count II, although Count I was dismissed prior to trial.
On March 22, Hall was found guilty by a Bureau County jury for the offenses of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony. Hall was arrested on June 10, 2015, by the TRIDENT Drug Task Force. The evidence showed Hall left Princeton and went to Chicago with two other individuals to purchase heroin. When they got to Chicago, Hall purchased approximately 15 bags of heroin to bring back to the Illinois Valley.
The TRIDENT officers received information Hall was going to Chicago to purchase heroin and were waiting for him to return. Police stopped the driver of the vehicle Hall was in for a traffic violation, and a K9 alerted on the vehicle, where heroin was found which Hall admitted was his.
Based on Hall’s criminal history, he was sentenced as a Class X offender because he has two prior Class 2 or higher felony convictions. On Feb. 18, 2005, Hall was convicted of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, cocaine, a Class 1 felony. On Jan. 5, 2011, Hall was convicted of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony. On Aug. 25, 2009, Hall was convicted of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, heroin.
