Are you interested in working with the hearing impaired?

There are different avenues for various related careers in deaf education and audiology.

According to GradSchools.com, a graduate degree in education of the deaf is a good fit for those who wish to work as a special education teacher teaching deaf students skills to help them lead normal, productive lives.

Different programs in deaf education include certificate programs, bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees.

Coursework can include curriculum and methods for deaf children, aural rehab for infants and children, research methods, language and literacy in deaf children, foundations of early childhood special education, teaching children with hearing loss to hear and speak, and family intervention techniques.

Audiology is the scientific field concerned with the study of hearing. While degree programs specifically in audiology are offered only at the graduate level, many schools offer bachelor's degree programs in related fields like speech and hearing science, which could lead to a career as an audiologist assistant, according to study.com.

Bachelor-seeking students take courses in speech, voice and communication disorders. Master's and doctoral studies explore more advanced topics, such as hearing physiology, acoustics, auditory neurology and audiology clinical practices. Graduate degree programs prepare students for licensure and professional certifications whereby they can diagnose and treat hearing loss and run tests to assess patients' ability to hear sounds.

Having a strong background in math, science and English is beneficial for a bachelor’s degree in the field, adds study.com. Master's programs admit students with a bachelor's degree and require them to submit their GRE scores. Clinical doctorate programs require previous coursework in speech and hearing science and an undergraduate degree as well submission of GRE scores. PhD programs require a master's degree in a related field.
