Members of Sunbeam Masonic Lodge 428 in Plano participated in a pizza party for the residents of the Illinois Masonic Children’s Home in La Grange on May 21. The members presented a donation to the home as well.
For over 120 years, the Illinois Masonic Children’s Homes have offered long-term residential care for children between the ages of 4 and 16 years. The first Masonic Children’s Home opened in Chicago in 1886. It was moved to La Grange in 1911.
The La Grange home currently serves 27 children. Its capacity is 40 children. In 2004, another home was opened in downstate Murphysboro.
The homes provide a safe and nurturing environment for children who are unable to care for themselves due to various family or home conditions. Both homes are entirely funded by the Grand Lodge of Illinois, and are licensed by the state of Illinois under the auspices of the Department of Children and Family Services.
