JOLIET – Police are investigating after a man's body was found Monday afternoon in a car parked at Kirby Plaza.
Joliet Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner said a 911 call received about 1:40 p.m. brought officers to the parking lot of Dollar General, 916 W. Jefferson St., where the body was found in a blue Chevrolet Cobalt.
According to the Will County Coroner's Office, the body was in the car's backseat.
"There are no initial signs of foul play, but we'll have to wait for the autopsy to determine the next step in the investigation," Roechner said.
After police evidence technicians photographed the scene, a deputy coroner placed the body into a body bag shortly after 3:30 p.m. and loaded it into a van to be transported to the morgue.
The man's identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified, according to the Coroner's Office.
The cause and manner of death is pending autopsy, police and toxicology reports, according to the Coroner's Office. The autopsy will be performed Tuesday.
