WOODSTOCK – A new coffeehouse and wine bar in Woodstock, Coleman's Rendezvous is relying on 40 years of family experience to be successful.
Coleman's Rendezvous is the family's latest venture for owner Brett Coleman. He also oversees Coleman's in Cary – where his son Seth is manager – along with Coleman's Catering that his sons Egan and Brady manage.
"Rendezvous was a meeting place historically and since we are someplace between Woodstock and Crystal Lake, we thought the Rendezvous name would get people to meet for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine at the Coleman's Rendezvous Coffeehouse and Wine Bar," Brett Coleman said.
Located at 2400 Lake Shore Drive, Coleman's Rendezvous used to house coffee shop Java Planet.
The new Rendezvous coffee bar features lattes, cappuccinos, fresh roasted drip coffee creations and an assortment of teas served up in Central Perk-style mugs made popular by the TV series "Friends." All of the coffee, both light and dark roasts, comes from Spring Grove-based Chicago Coffee Roastery.
"We wanted to keep the coffeehouse up and running for working folks," Brett Coleman said. "The atmosphere is very casual ... People can relax here."
The restaurant boasts a breakfast menu, a "Coffee House Lunch" menu and an evening bistro menu along with the full coffee and wine bars. Each item on the bistro menu has suggested red and white wine pairings. Customers also can select single glasses of wine from the specials menu for $6.
The menu of the Rendezvous was created with the help of Brett Coleman's chef, John Wolf. Wolf has worked with Coleman's Catering for more than 20 years. Brett Coleman described Wolf as a well-rounded cook whose style comes through his food.
The Rendezvous owner believes the variety in dishes makes the menu at the Rendezvous appealing to anyone. His restaurant experience goes back to his childhood.
Brett Coleman and his brother, Barry Coleman, owner of Coleman's Tavern and Grill in Woodstock, learned the industry from their parents, who also were restaurant owners in the area.
His personal favorite dish at Rendezvous is the cheese and charcuterie slate with honey-dipped almonds. Other popular items include the calamari, caprese salad, pork belly with potato pancakes and seared ahi tuna plate.
"The food here is different from what you'll get anywhere else," Brett Coleman said.
