PLAINFIELD – Which Wich Superior Sandwiches in Plainfield and many other locations nationwide are teaming up to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for local charities.
The effort will take place April 2, which is National PB&J Day, according to a company news release.
Every year, Dallas-based Which Wich participates in Project PB&J, which is an initiative of the Which Wich Cares Foundation.
Stores that are part of the franchise match a customer’s donation of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with one of their own. The overall donation goal is 100,000 sandwiches.
Jalpesh Patel, store owner of the Plainfield Which Wich, located at 12720 S. Route 59, said Project PB&J is about giving back to the community.
“This goes toward to treating the hungry and shelter houses,” Patel said.
According to Project PB&J’s website, when people buy a Project PB&J sandwich, they are helping in three ways: they get a sandwich they can give away or gift, Which Wich gives a PB&J sandwich to a local organization and Which Wich banks a sandwich to help the world during times of greater need, such as a natural disaster.
“Peanut butter, jelly and bread come together to mean so much more,” states the Project PB&J website. “For the organizations we give to, and the people they help, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches can be a reminder of home during a hard time and a meal for an empty belly.”
People are also encouraged to buy items such as T-shirts at the Project PB&J website to support the initiative.
According to a company timeline, Project PB&J was launched January 2014 "to help make the world a better place, one PB&J at a time."
In April 2015, Which Wich celebrated National PB&J Day by donating sandwiches to local organizations nationwide.
