Created in the basement studio of her Woodstock home, Monica Sargeant’s jewelry has made its way to television.

Sargeant’s pieces – part of her Delia’s Delight Jewelry sold through Deliasdelight.etsy.com – have appeared on characters on “Jane the Virgin,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Cedar Cove,” and have been gifted the past two years to those attending the Golden Globes and will be gifted at the MTV Movie Awards, scheduled for April 9.

No, she typically doesn’t get paid for celebrity use of her jewelry, but it definitely gives her something to talk about.

“I’m not the best salesperson,” she said with a laugh. “It’s kind of like one of those interesting points.”

Sargeant is among 40 artists taking part in the ninth annual Affair of the Arts Fine Art & Artisan Gift Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 13 at The Shores of Turtle Creek, 7908 Winn Road, Spring Grove.

The show will feature about 10,000 square feet of original artwork and artisan crafts, artist demonstrations, food and drink, including wine, mixed drinks and other beverages. Admission is free. For information, visit http://affairofthearts.org.

Along with jewelry, the show will feature original creations, such as clothing by KatKo Designs, encaustic artwork by Cindy Lesperance, shadowboxes by Joe and Kathleen Isacson (event organizer) and fiber creations by Steve and Erin Whalen.

Sargeant has participated in the show the past couple of years, having created jewelry using metals, natural stones, fibers, resins and glass for more than 10 years.

“It’s what I do in my free time,” said Sargeant, who also works in a law office and teaches jewelry-making to anyone with the enthusiasm to learn. “It’s kind of like therapy for me.”

At the show, she plans to feature her Karmic Serenity Collection, based on the “belief that the more serenity you put into the world, the more you will get back.” A portion of the collection’s proceeds will be donated to the Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 Music Boosters, of which she said her children, 14-year-old Christopher and 18-year-old Delia, have benefited.

Sargeant's work has made its way to Hollywood the past couple years. With the help of The Artisan Group, she basically donates her jewelry to stylists, who then use it as they see fit. At times, she'll get emails about an upcoming show and character. She's then challenged to create a piece she thinks will suit the character.

If she’s fortunate, copies of the jewelry will be bought for continuity, stunt people or in case something happens to the original, she said.

As for gifts to awards shows, in which she typically sends 50 to 100 pieces, “It’s at the artist’s expense. The payoff is you get seen somewhere you might not normally be seen.”

So far, her jewelry has been worn during season three of “Cedar Cove” by Teryl Rothery, who played Grace Sherman; on Feb. 3 in “Law and Order: SVU” by Abby Miller, who played Libby Parker; and in season two of “Jane the Virgin” by a teen playing Jane’s mother in a flashback sequence.

The pieces include a sterling silver magnesite carnelian wire wrap necklace on “Cedar Cove” – “It kind of has like a tribal feel to it,” – a fine silver skeleton key pendant on “Law and Order: SVU” and a copper cuff bracelet for “Jane the Virgin.”

She’s also sent pieces to “Vampire Diaries,” “Bones” and “Scream Queens.”

“I don’t like things that look perfect,” she said of her creations. “I like that it looks like it was made by somebody.”
