Maercker School District 60 names superintendent

The Maercker School District 60 Board of Education announced the appointment of Sean Nugent as the new superintendent, effective July 1. The appointment was approved unanimously at the Feb. 16 meeting.

Nugent will replace Jamie Reilly, who is retiring at the end of the school year after three years in the district.

Nugent serves as principal of Westview Hills Middle School in District 60. He was selected to replace Reilly after a comprehensive national search conducted by the Illinois Association of School Boards, the news release stated.

Nugent’s proven track record of excellence, knowledge of best practices, and demonstration of collaboration make him an excellent choice, the release stated. He also brings a significant understanding of operations to help him effectively lead the district.

Prior to the principal’s position at Westview Hills Middle School, Nugent served in school and district leadership roles in Troy School District 30-C, and teaching positions in Summit Hill School District 161 and the Chicago Public Schools. He received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in educational administration from Governors State University. He is a doctoral candidate at Illinois State University, working on his dissertation after completing the program of study.

After a rigorous recruitment and screening process, IASB selected candidates from a pool of more than 80 applicants.

The board interviewed five candidates before making a selection, and approved a two-year contract.
