View ‘Exuberant Color’ presentation at Fair City Quilt Guild meeting

Fair City Quilt Guild welcomes Wanda S. Hanson to the Feb. 15 meeting. She will present a trunk show, “Exuberant Color,” covering several topics with more than 75 of her quilts and quilt tops.

Hanson started quilting in 1957 when she was a teenager. This ended up being her career – making quilts, teaching quilt-making for more than 30 years, and giving programs for guilds and other organizations.

Several of her quilts have been published in books, calendars and magazines. She also owned a quilt shop in the 1980s and was the fabric buyer for two other shops.

The joy of working with color, a good sense of mathematics and loving the hum of the sewing machine are some of the things that got her started. Even though she did extensive hand embroidery of all kinds, she has always machine quilted her quilts.

The past 20 years have been devoted more to art quilting for the wall and less to functional bed quilts. Her work is set apart by her incredible use of color, precision in piecing and textural quilting. Hanson inspires quilters with her daily blog, exuberantcolor.blogspot.com.

This special meeting of Fair City Quilters will be at 7 p.m. at the Federated Church 403 N. Main St., Sandwich. Guests are welcome to attend. There is a $5 admission fee.
