Boy Scout Troop 2810, chartered out of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, recently had its annual cooking competition campout at Marengo Ridge. The scouts were given three challenges: For breakfast, each patrol could only use one utensil to prepare their meal, lunch's challenge was to cook over an open fire, and lastly, for dinner, no one could use a propane stove to cook their meal. In addition, there was a secret ingredient for each meal which was a cucumber for breakfast, ramen noodles for lunch and apples for dinner. The scouts became creative with pizzas, shish kabobs, stews, and pies. This competition builds teamwork, creativity and teaches cooking skills to the young men. When the scouts weren't cooking, they were enjoying the hiking trails in the area and working on their camping skills.
