Kindergarten is a special time in your child’s life. Not only are they learning how to adapt to a new social setting, many are getting their first real academic experience. At St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic School, families have the option of a half-day or full-day Kindergarten program for their student.
The full-day, 5 days/week Kindergarten program is enhanced by a variety of standard and special classes, including Language Arts and Math (both utilizing McGraw-Hill programs). Additional classes throughout the week include Art, Spanish, Physical Education, Computers, Music, Science (with many hands-on experiments), and Social Studies. Students benefit from the use of iPads in the classroom, increasing their technology skills.
The Kindergarten program at St. Mary of Gostyn also offers benefits beyond the traditional classroom teachings. “We use the Benziger ‘Blest Are We’ Religion program in our Kindergarten classes,” said Sarah Malik, Kindergarten teacher at SMG. “Prayer is integrated throughout the students’ day; each day begins and ends with prayer, there is a prayer before meals, and we make sure students have opportunities for spontaneous prayer.”
Lucy Jamrozek, another Kindergarten teacher at SMG, stresses the importance and influence of religion in the classroom. “Our Kindergarteners have Monthly Mass attendance with 5th Grade Faith Buddies. They give and receive birthday blessings. We study and celebrate Advent during the Christmas season and Lent during Easter,” said Ms. Jamrozek. “We host an All School Mass where our students participate in the readings, and at the end of the year they experience a Cap and Gown Liturgy service.”
Seasonal crafts and projects, a Student of the Week bulletin, and Corduroy Bear’s weekly adventure at a student’s home add an element of fun to each student’s Kindergarten experience. For more information, please contact:
