Round Lake rolls past Grant in boys soccer

SEASON PREVIEWS:

GRANT

Coach: Bryan Mark

Key returning players: Seniors – Zach Kowalik, Zack Cooper, Alex Jamusz, Matt Koch, Moses Melesio and Nathan Munsterman; Junior – Rudy Frescas.

Key newcomers: Sophomores – Chris Cooper, Jose Gordiano, Sam Lee, Ricardo Martin and Rafa Torres; Freshmen – Will Gonzalez, Danny Talavera and Angel Uriostegui.

Outlook: Grant features a nice mix of veterans and youth as eight underclassmen join the Bulldogs roster this season.

ROUND LAKE

Coach: Hugo Tellez

Key returning players: Seniors – Christian Gomez, Erwin Paz and Freddie Ramirez; Juniors – Vladimir Manriquez and Alejandro Sotelo.

Key newcomers: Seniors – Luis Aguilar, Alberto Gomez, Giovanni Guzman, Misael Hidrogo and Sergei Wawrzyniak.

Outlook: Ramirez will lead the Panthers in its fast-paced offense.

ANTIOCH

Coach: Marni Polakow

Key returning players: Seniors – Danny Brito, Jordan Keller and Lucas Semitka; Junior – Alex Ruano; Sophomore – RJ Vasquez.

Key newcomers: Sophomore-Gabe Tijerina; Freshmen-Alex Keeler and Krystian Nikolov.

Outlook: Antioch lost some scoring to graduation, but with some new talent, the Sequoits look to get better as the season progresses.

CARMEL

Coach: Ray Krawzak

Key returning players: Seniors – Scott Cloe, Braco Lasso and Ryan McKernan; Junior – Jacob Spheeris; Sophomores – Austin Ehren and Rob Rao.

Key newcomers: Juniors – Michael Alemu and Luke Johnson.

Outlook: Carmel returns its entire defensive unit from last season and will be led by its returning group of seniors.

GRAYSLAKE CENTRAL

Coach: Tom Hamilton

Key returning players: Seniors – Josh Garcia, Conner Gossell, Paul Kulis, Chris Quiroz, Ethan Rockel and Ben Sizelove; Juniors – Randy Betancourth, Richard Cruz, Leo Orozco, Trevor Veenstra, Bryan Wehde and David Young; Sophomore – Ethan Mendoza.

Key newcomers: Seniors – Joel Carreon, Evan Cavalier and Abdiel Espinoza.

Outlook: Rams return a lot of talent from last year's 15-6 team.

GRAYSLAKE NORTH

Coach: Adam DeCaluwe

Key returning players: Seniors – Sean Dameron, Kyle Hensley, Julian Jimenez, Cole Karabinus, JC Thomas and Chris Zamora; Juniors – Christian Guerrero, Grant Nickolson, Jason Rhodes and Ben Tompoles.

Key newcomers: Seniors – Patrick Blashe and Zach Nadeau; Juniors – Carlos Alfaro, Jack Critzer, Marlon De Ita, Brandon LeBaron and Tyler Salvador.

Outlook: The Knights lost a lot of talent to graduation but should gain experience as the season progresses.

LAKES

Coach: Kevin Kullby

Key returning players: Seniors – Foster Dore, Zack Espinosa and Marco Novakovic; Juniors – Nick Dydo and Sean O'Brien.

Key newcomers: Sophomores – Jeffery MIlostan, Wade Palmy and Danny Wieczorek.

Outlook: Lakes has a nice core returning as it looks to make a run in conference play.

LIBERTYVILLE

Coach: Andy Bitta

Key returning players: Seniors – Nate Edmunds, Trucker Goebeler, Liam O'Connell, Jacob Rasmussen, Kevin Reilly.

Key Newcomers: Freshmen – Thomas Pearson and Ryan Wittenbrink.

Outlook: After losing 12 players to graduation, Libertyville still has some talent and hopes to finish toward the top in conference.

MUNDELEIN

Coach: Ernie Billittier

Key returning players: Seniors – Jake Fiolka, Donnie Kvien, Yann Nsoga and Eddie Suaste; Junior – Jose Ortega.

Key newcomers: Juniors – Danny Ford, Nick Ramirez and Elliot Sachnoff.

Outlook: The Mustangs have a nice group of young players poised for a run in the postseason.

VERNON HILLS

Coach: Mike McCaulou

Key returning players: Senior – Matt Hong; Juniors – Aaron Castellanos, Andrew Kim, Brennan Reback and Chris White.

Key newcomers: Seniors – Joseph Lee and Jose Sanchez; Junior – Ryan Kim.

Outlook: The Cougars will be young but should be very competitive this season.

WAUCONDA

Coach: Michael Jacobs

Key returning players: Seniors – Max Bermann, Teddy Kolarov and Alex Reyes; Juniors – Tiaga Miyaryo, Danny McNutt and Sean Sullivan; Sophomore – Erik Hernandez.

Key newcomers: Sophomore – Christopher Fox.

Outlook: Coach Jacobs inherits a very young team that will get better as the season goes on.

WARREN

Coach: Jason Ahonen

Key returning players: Seniors – Ivan Esquivel, Alex Fratila and Matt Height; Juniors – Richie Flores and Kody Anderson.

Key newcomers: Juniors – Bryan Galvan, Noe Rodriguez and Jack Tully.

Outlook: This could be a special season for Warren as they return a lot of experience from last year's 15-win team.
