OREGON – The investigation into a collision that killed two people and injured a third is expected to take 2 to 3 months, and no decision on whether the surviving driver will be cited is likely to be made until it's over, an Ogle County Sheriff's spokesman said.
The State Police is conducting the investigation, Chief Deputy Danny White said.
Sheriff Brian VanVickle has said in published reports that there was no evidence of distracted driving, and that he thinks the 17-year-old driver didn't know the area and didn't see the stop sign she ran.
Meanwhile, the fourth victim has been released from the hospital, her family said in a news release Wednesday.
Andy Conderman, 64, of Amboy, and Emily Fleming, 17, of Stillman Valley, were killed in the crash on Sept. 4.
According to the sheriff's department and coroner's officials:
Conderman was southbound on U.S. Route 251 near Davis Junction when, witnesses said, a westbound car driven by Alison Seiler of Stillman Valley ran a stop sign at Big Mound Road and struck his pickup, which burst into flames.
Conderman died at the scene of blunt force trauma to the head.
Seiler and her two passengers, Fleming and Carly Koenig, also 17 and from Stillman Valley, were Stillman Valley High School seniors and cheerleaders on their way to a football game.
Fleming died at Rockford Memorial Hospital, also of blunt force trauma to the head. Seiler was treated and released soon after.
Koenig, who was hospitalized at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, was released Tuesday "and is home, resting and healing," her family said.
Neither Fleming or Koenig were wearing seat belts, the sheriff's department said.
