I ask my chamber members on a regular basis, "How is business?" It seems like such a simple question, but I never receive a simple answer.
The response begins with one or two words – “great, busy’ or “slow, hurting." The conversation that follows is specific to the business; however, the feelings an owner describes mirrors the feelings of many other business owners in the community.
Although each business is unique, big and small business owners need to realize they are not alone. Small changes can lead to big differences. One of the most important changes is to commit to advertising and networking every month.
A business with sporadic advertising and networking is using a shortsighted approach, lending itself to sporadic leads, inconsistent success and a poor mindset for long-term success.
A business owner sometimes feels like an isolated job. You’re in charge and responsible for the well being of your business, not only for your customers but for your loyal employees.
When things aren’t going as well as you’d like and when it feels like you’re drowning, fear not. Many businesses in our community have had the exact experiences and hardships you’ve endured. Each business may have their own trick or tip they use to make their business as successful as possible.
At the Wonder Lake Chamber of Commerce, we take pride in our businesses. Our chamber mixers provide a great place for owners to have a drink, get something to eat and meet other business owners who have been in your shoes.
Even better, owners can host their own own mixers. This allows you to showcase your business, meet and greet new, potential customers.
Interested people can join the Wonder Lake Chamber on Sept. 22 for a mixer at McHenry County College and again on Oct. 13 for a mixer at the Home of the Sparrow.
