No injuries after Carpentersville apartment fire (with video)

CARPENTERSVILLE – A fire in an apartment complex in Carpentersville resulted in minor damage, but no injuries, fire officials said Monday.

The Carpentersville Fire Department was dispatched about 7 p.m. for a structure fire at 1 Middlesex Drive, which is part of the Fox View Apartments complex in Kane County, Lt. Brian Berry said.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a window and a small fire in one unit that apparently started in an upstairs bathroom, Berry said. The fire was put out quickly, he added.

“It looks like it might have come from a vent fan, but it’s still under investigation,” Berry said on scene.

There were no occupants in the unit at the time of the fire and Berry said it sounded like it was called in by someone outside who saw smoke.

The building was evacuated, leaving a number of residents in the parking lot observing while crews did overhaul work.

One such resident, Jessica Nunez, was cooking dinner when a police officer knocked on her door.

“I saw smoke in the apartment across from mine,” she said, adding that’s when she joined her neighbors to wait while firefighters finished up.

Carpentersville had assistance from Cary, East Dundee, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills and Rutland-Dundee fire protection districts, said Berry, who did not have damage estimates as of Monday night.
