LA GRANGE – With summer more than halfway over, La Grange's Endless Summerfest at Gordon Park will make sure it won't go to waste.
Presented by the La Grange Park District and La Grange Business Association, the weekend of July 31 to Aug. 2 will have three nights of live music, carnival rides, food from local restaurants, a wine and beer garden and for the first time, a human fooseball tournament.
Members of the La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation created the fooseball tournament for Endless Summerfest as a fun addition, as well as to gather proceeds toward the expansion and renovation for the hospital's emergency department, according to Janet Kennedy, development associate for the La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation.
"Endless Summerfest is an established event and they were looking for something new and it was proposed to our associate board to build a human fooseball tournament," said Kennedy. "It was the perfect match of this group to create something fun and energetic to support the hospital foundation. It was novel, something new, it will be the first events like this in the community.
This marks the second year of the Endless Summerfest since it moved to its new venue in Gordon Park, according to Nancy Cummings, executive director of the La Grange Business Association.
"Originally [Endless Summerfest] was held in the central business district [of La Grange], but it went away because they had to block off businesses for too long," Cummings said. "Gordon Park became available when it got redesigned."
