Bernardino R. 'Bernie' Arteaga

MENDOTA – Bernardino R. "Bernie" Arteaga, 38, of Mendota, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at his home.

Bernie was born April 27, 1977, in Sterling, to Bernardino and Maria (Cavazos) Arteaga. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed, especially by his nieces and nephews, who always saw him as their fun, playful "Uncle Bernie."

He is survived by his parents, Bernardino of Mexico and Maria of Mendota; one sister, Veronica (Oscar) Avila of Mendota; one brother, Mario (Tasha) Arteaga; maternal grandmother, Thomasa Cavazos of Sterling; six nieces, Janaya, Janessa, and Jayme Wyatt, Jesenya and Juliya Avila, and Allyssah Arteaga; one nephew, Aisaac Arteaga; two great-nieces, Aleeya Arteaga and Mariah Larsen; one great-nephew, Gavin Espinoza; and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his loving sister, Christina "Lisa" Cavazos, paternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, and several uncles.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Schwarz Funeral Home in Mendota. Visitation also will be from 9 to 11 a.m Wednesday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at McDonald Funeral Home in Sterling. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. Pallbearers will be Mario Arteaga, JJ Cavazos, Tony Larsen, Lucas Garcia, Mauricio Avila, and Israel Garcia.
