Patten House chosen for Geneva’s 2015 ornament

GENEVA – The Patten House at 124 S. Second St. in Geneva – built in 1857 by businessman George Patten and now a restaurant – is the fifth historic building to be featured as a Geneva pewter ornament.

The ornaments are $12 and will be available for sale at City Hall, 22 S. First St., Geneva, and on the city's website, www.geneva.il.us, officials said.

The new ornament was unveiled at a special Committee of the Whole meeting this week.

“It’s really cool, beautifully done,” Mayor Kevin Burns said.

"We've [had] an incredible year; it's just beautiful, and the ornament is such an honor," said Patten House Restaurant owner Nancy Luyton. "They called and told us we were chosen for the city ornament this year. It was wonderful."

Assistant City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins said they choose buildings that are picturesque to put on the annual ornament.

Past city-themed ornaments featured City Hall, The Paper Merchant and the Pure Oil building, she said.
