Roselle man head-butts Metra conductor in Bensenville, breaks his nose

WHEATON – A Roselle man was charged with aggravated battery to a transit employee after allegedly head-butting a Metra conductor July 6, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

About 6:54 p.m. July 6, Jack Kamysz, 64, of the 22W100 block of Irving Park Road, Roselle, was asked for his train fare by conductor John Smak as the train approached the Bensenville station, according to the release.

Kamysz allegedly made a vulgar comment towards Smak, who then attempted to escort Kamysz to the train's vestibule. But Kamysz then head-butted the train conductor, breaking his nose, the news release stated.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced that charges have been filed against Kamysz, who appeared in bond court July 7, where Judge Richard Russo set bond at $50,000 with 10 percent to apply.

Kamysz has been charged with one count of aggravated battery to a transit employee, a Class 3 felony, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

“The allegations against Mr. Kamysz are outrageous,” Berlin said in the release. “This type of unprovoked attack on a man who was just doing his job will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be met with the full force of the law."

His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 3 in front of Judge Liam Brennan.
