Volo woman indicted on bank robbery charges

ROCKFORD – A federal court has charged a Lake County woman, alleged to have robbed three Chase Bank branches in separate incidents in March, with multiple counts of bank robbery.

Teresa Knowles, 39, of Volo was indicted Tuesday on two counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Rockford.

Knowles is accused of robbing Chase Bank branches March 21 in Crystal Lake and March 24 in Grayslake. She also is accused of the attempted robbery of another Chase Bank branch March 24 in Johnsburg. Each charge carries a maximum possible sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

Knowles is scheduled to make her initial court appearance Thursday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Iain Johnson.
