PCA Eagle Run twice as fun, far

The Eagle Run, a Princeton Christian Academy event, added a new twist this year with the addition of a 10K.

The 10K run was won by Dan Kasperski, 41, of Tonica with a time of 38:19.5. Andrew Smith, 19, (39:39.8) and Kane Eastwood, 20, of Walnut were close behind.

Angie Forbeck, 39, of Princeton, was the first female finisher in 45.34.6. Cherie House, 37, of Princeton was the 10K runner-up (47:32.6).

Winners in the Eagle 5K run were Dan Palmer, 38, of Roscoe (17:38.8) and Brianna Legner, 17, of Princeton (22:53.2). Zach Kieffer, 22, of Princeton was second overall in 17:48.7.

Masters winners were Dennis Nink, 53, of Princeton (21:03.3) and Dorie Lange, 53, of Walnut (28:41).

The military winners were Phillip Boeve, 61, (25:34) and Tammy Griffin, 42, of Malden (47:22.1).

Upcoming events

There are many running events scheduled over the Fourth of July Weekend. They include:

• The Walnut 5K Run/Walk for ALS will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at Bureau Valley North Junior High School. All proceeds are donated to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) for research.

Check-in and race day registration will be from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m. at the tent by the park shelter south of the school. Entry fee is $15 if received by Friday, June 26, $20 after.

• The 16th annual Reagan 5K Run is on Saturday, July 4, in downtown Dixon. The race begins at 8 a.m. at the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home at 810 S. Hennepin Ave. The race is a Petunia Festival tradition.

Online registration is available until July 2 at http://www.reaganrun.com. Registration is $25 from June 20-July 2, and $30 on the day of the race. Early packet pickup is Friday, July 3, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dixon YMCA (110 N. Galena Ave.). Race day packet pickup is at Haymarket Square on 255 Highland Ave.

Included with the Reagan Run is the Kids’ Fun Run for kids 9 and under. Check-in and race day registration will end at 7:15 a.m. The Fun Run will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Hennepin Avenue and 8th Street and will end at Haymarket Square.

The KSB Corporate challenge is also in conjunction with the Reagan Run. Must have five participants from the same company.

• The Movin’ for Music 5K will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 4, from the Hennepin Pool. Pre-registration and packet pickup will be from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. at the pool. Registration fees are $20 by Tuesday, June 30, and $25 after. Team entry fees (5 person) are $75 by June 30 and $100 after.

• The 5K Run For Glory will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at City Park in Streator. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. Entry fees are $18 up to race day and $20 on race day.

• A week later, the Ladd 125th Celebration will include a 5K Run/Walk starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Ladd Grade School. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m. The pre-registration fee of $20 should be submitted by Saturday, July 4.

• The Nancy Olds-Bohm 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Memorial Park in Wyanet. Pre-registration and packet pickup will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, July 10, at the park. Race day registration will be from 7-7:45 a.m. Check-in begins at 6:30 a.m.

Pre-registration fees before July 1 are $15 for the 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Memory and $20 after that date. Cost for the Kids Fun Run is $5.

• The seventh annual Geneseo Bark in the Park 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 18 from the Geneseo City Park Pavilion. Pre-registration before Friday, June 2 is $20, and $25 after. Cost for the kids races is $5. There is a family rate for three or members of $30.

IVCH Tennis Classic

LASALLE — Illinois Valley Community Hospital will host a tennis classic July 3-5 at the new LaSalle-Peru High School athletic complex located on Airport Road in LaSalle.

The matches will begin between 8 and 9 a.m. each day to accommodate Fourth of July plans.

There will be two divisions, a junior and adult division. In the junior division there will be two age groups: 13 and under and 17 and under. The event will have men’s and women’s singles and doubles, junior boys’ and girls’ singles, and adult mixed doubles.

Awards will be given to first and second place in the main draw and consolation in each division. There will also be a prize for the best dressed mixed doubles team.

Jimmy D Golf

SPRING VALLEY — The 33rd annual Jimmy D Golf Day will be Sunday, July 12, at Spring Creek Golf Course and Deer Park Country Club in Oglesby.

The event is held in memory of James A. “Jimmy” DeAngelo, who died at age 37 in 1983 after fighting cancer. It was the wish of Jimmy and his family to raise funds for cancer patients. The event raised $20,677 last year and more than $658,000 over the past 32 years.

This year’s goal is $22,000. The proceeds will benefit the Esophageal and Colon Cancer Center at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

Jay Braida Golf

PRINCETON — The sixth annual Jay Braida Memorial Golf Open will be held Saturday, July 11, at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Princeton. This year’s recipient is Kamden Wahlgren of Princeton. His parents are Erick and Staci. He has two other siblings, Kaiden, 10, and Emma, 5. Kamden is in second grade and was diagnosed with pediatric auto-immune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with strep in 2012. He was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease and toxic encephalitis.

PRINCETON — The sixth annual Ag in the Classroom Golf Outing will be Friday, June 26, at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Princeton. There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the four-person scramble. All proceeds will benefit the Bureau and Lee County Ag in the Classroom programs.

The Z Tour

PRINCETON — On Saturday, July 18, the Zearing Child Enrichment Center will again be sponsoring the Z Tour Bike Ride, a bicycle road ride originating in Princeton and including many surrounding communities.

The event will begin at Zearing Park and will include the registrant’s choice of a 10-mile (group ride at 10 a.m.), 30-mile, 50-mile, 62-mile (metric century) and 100-mile (century) ride on specified routes throughout Bureau County.

The Z Tour Bike Ride will feature themed refreshment stops, mobile emergency first aid, water, air and bike transportation. At the conclusion of the ride, each rider will be provided lunch at Zearing Park. A limited quantity of dri-fit T-shirts, cycling socks, and newly designed Z Tour Bike Ride jersey can be ordered in advance or purchased the day of the event.
