Boy Scouts from St. Charles spent a Saturday morning battling invasive plant species.
Recently, Boy Scout Troop 13 of St. Charles and its leaders teamed up with Mary Zaander of Witness Tree Native Landscapes Inc. and Josh Nelson of Campton Township to help with restoration efforts at Harley Woods park in Campton Township. The troop spent the morning pulling an invasive plant – garlic mustard – according to a news release.
While helping with the project, the Scouts also learned about native and invasive plants in the area, as well as how to identify common plants and why native plants are important to a healthy ecosystem.
By the end of the day, the Campton Township dump truck left with a bed full of garlic mustard, states the release.
