CHARLESTON – Lockport’s badminton team scored eight points and tied with Stevenson for seventh place in this weekend’s IHSA finals at Eastern Illinois University.
Leading the way for the Porters were their singles team of Lauren Hueckstaedt and Jen Inczauskis, who won their first three matches before losing their next two.
Also for Lockport, Jessica Miller won her first two matches before finishing 2-2, which is the same record posted by Haley Egelhof in singles and its doubles squad of Sarah Heimberg and Deanna Cooper.
Lincoln-Way West also received 2-2 efforts from singles player Cassie Ruettiger and the doubles team of Divinity Burgos and Stephanie McDonald, who won their first two matches. Also for the Warriors, Delayne Weston picked up a singles win.
Lincoln-Way Central received an opening-round win from singles player Claire Hilgenbrink and a victory from its doubles team of Alex Sutton and Alexis Derk. And Romeoville got a win in consolation play from Angeleah Barin.
GIRLS SOCCER
Romeoville 4, East Aurora 1: Olivia Delarosa scored two goals and had an assist for the Spartans in Saturday’s Class 3A Lockport Regional quarterfinal. Gabi Chavez and Klaudia Ptak also scored while Macayla Dweyer made 13 saves.
BOYS TENNIS
SouthWest Suburban Tournament: Lockport won with a 40-point performance after capturing three singles and three doubles titles.
Jack Randall (6-4, 6-1), Mike Hasler (7-6 (8-6), 6-0) and Jake Anderson (6-3, 6-1) all won singles titles for the Porters. Lockport’s Christian Monte-Trevor Wood (6-4, 6-2), Kyle Dybas-Bret Scialabba (6-0, 6-4) and Nolan Gilbertson and Joseph Bochenek (6-1, 6-4) took first in second through fourth doubles.
Joliet Township’s Tom Carney and Morgan Red beat Lockport’s Patrick Piwoni and Lucas Pindak, 6-1, 6-0, for the No. 1 doubles title. And at No. 2 doubles, JT’s Louie Diaz and Tim Spesia took third with a 6-2, 6-4 win.
South Suburban Tournament: Lemont won its ninth consecutive conference championship and swept the five titles. Faraz Longi (6-0, 6-2) and Juan Diaz-Sanin (6-1, 6-3) won their singles matches, while Nick Urban and Nathaniel Burner (6-0, 6-0), Charlie Cannon and Matt Retzke (6-1, 6-1) and Matt Uthupan and Aldo Pizzoferrato (7-6 (8-6), 6-2) won at doubles. The No. 1 doubles team of Urban and Burner are undefeated at 26-0.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Willowbrook Invite: JCA (27-3) topped Wheaton North, 25-13, 25-20, and Leyden, 25-13, 25-14, in Friday’s pool play. Blake Reardon recorded 14 kills while Ben Gabor tallied 13 kills and Mitch Gustafson had seven kills and six aces.
Lincoln-Way West 26-25, Lincoln-Way Central 24-18: Michael Wexter had seven kills to lead West (24-3, 7-2), while Scott Christensen had six and Jake Gasparich four. Jon Rossi recorded seven assists in the SouthWest Suburban victory.
