JOLIET – Two retiring University of St. Francis (USF) faculty members were named professors emeriti, announced USF President Arvid C. Johnson.
The title of professor emeritus is granted in recognition of unique contributions to the university in the areas of academic advising, professional services, professional growth and scholarly effort. Professors emeriti will be honored during commencement ceremonies on May 16.
Lyle Hicks of Mokena has filled many duties in his 39 years at the University of St. Francis. Presently serving as professor of recreation, sport & tourism management, Hicks is also CEO for the university's Center for Innovation and Leadership.
Hicks previously served as executive director of the solutions resource center; as dean of the College of Business & Health Administration; as director of professional arts & continuing education; and as dean of students.
He is a consultant and evaluator for The Higher Learning Commission – A Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; a member of the Workforce Investment Board of Will County; member of the Joliet Public Schools Student Health & Wellness Committee; and a member of the Joliet Partnership for Healthy Families.
Hicks is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a military intelligence officer in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Service and the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf for valor. He attained the rank of captain.
Hicks holds a doctorate degree from Northern Illinois University and master's and bachelor's degrees from Southern Illinois University.
Frank Wyrostek of Homer Glen is a professor of finance in the College of Business & Health Administration. He has taught at USF for 29 years in the areas of finance, banking and real estate.
He holds a doctorate degree in administration and supervision and an master's in business administration degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
Wyrostek previously served as an economic development commissioner for the Village of Homer Glen and has been a member of the Financial Management Association and the Midwest Business Association. He also served as managing director of the Real Estate Trust Fund.
