WALTON – Dennis P. Ackert, 66, of Walton, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at KSB Hospital in Dixon.
He was born Jan. 19, 1949, in Dixon, the son of Edward F. and Ruth M. “Sally” (Oester) Ackert. Dennis attended Walton Grade School, and graduated in 1967 from Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling. He was a lifelong farmer in the Walton area, and worked at Henry Pratt Co. in Dixon for 39 years before his retirement. Dennis was a devoted husband and loved his children, grandchildren, family, and friends more than life. Dennis was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton and the Dixon American Legion. He also was the Marion Township Trustee for many years. Dennis married Bonnie Bingham on June 26, 1971, in Dixon.
Survivors include his wife of Walton; one son, Jeffrey (Mary) Ackert of Walton; one daughter, Tina (Ryan) Lindenmeyer of Sublette; six grandchildren, Molly and Rachel Ackert, and Emma, Maverick, Eden, and Tucker Lindenmeyer; his mother of Bloomington; three sisters, Dianna (Roger) Pettorini and Becky Grey, both of Bloomington, and Susan (Edward) Leffelman of Amboy; five brothers, David (Lana) Ackert, Carl (Dorine) Ackert, and John (Jackie) Ackert, all of Dixon, and Ron (Tami) Ackert and James (Maureen) Ackert, both of Walton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., with the rosary recited at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton. Visitation also will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the church, with the Rev. Thomas Bales, pastor, officiating. Burial, with military graveside honors accorded by Amboy American Legion, will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Harmon. Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy is handling arrangements.
A memorial has been established to Amboy Clipper Backers.
