GENEVA – The Geneva Park District’s Sunset Pool will be getting $300,000 in renovations, with new features installed beginning next week and to be completed by May 23. That would be in time for opening day, officials said.
The cost of the renovations will be covered by the district’s capital fund, officials said.
“The addition of the modern, interactive play features and climbing walls make Sunset Pool a real summer destination,” Geneva Park District Executive Director Sheavoun Lambillotte stated in a news release.
The current sand castle play structure will be replaced with a larger, interactive and more modern aquatic playground that features a variety water of play features, including slides and tipping coconuts, officials said.
Other amenities to be added will include toddler swings, dumping buckets and water cannons.
A 12-foot climbing wall will be installed in the deep well of the pool, allowing a challenge to climb to the top and then drop down into the water. A second 5-foot climbing wall will be installed in the lap lane area, officials said.
The current Sunset Pool was built in 1996, and it received a facelift in 2003, officials said.
In addition to these amenities, pools users at both Sunset and Mill Creek pools will notice expanded hours and increased swim lesson options.
Pool passes are on sale. Early-bird pool pass rates are available through April 30, and regular rates are effective as of May 1.
