District 202 students take all top prizes at Plainfield Public Library annual short story competition

PLAINFIELD – District 202 elementary school students earned all nine of the top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library's annual Short Story Competition.

This competition is open to third through fifth grade students. The young authors had to write an original story in 500 to 600 words. The library held a finale on Feb. 28. Author and illustrator Kevin Luthardt acted as judge for this year's event.

The winners enjoyed a meet-and-greet with Luthardt after the event. Booklets with the winning submissions as well as the names of all the students who participated in this year's competition are available at the library.

The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:

Third Grade –

• First place – Arpita Acharya, Lincoln, ("Snowy Moon")

• Second place – Skyler DeBolt, Liberty ("Thoughts-its")

• Third place – Laasya Nagumalli, Eichelberger ("Trapped")

Fourth Grade:

• First place – Lillian Foreman, Lakewood Falls ("Dexter's Hope")

• Second place – Andrew Heritage, River View ("Hamilton Pig")

• Third place – Hannah Fornelli, River View ("The Fortune on the Bench")

Fifth Grade

• First place – Amanda Ragnini, Eichelberger ("Into the Cyber-World")

• Second place – Arsh Faheem, Lincoln ("Mountain Adventures")

• Third place – Brandon Catanese, Walker's Grove ("The Adventures of Chip the Pony and Meg the Wonder Horse The Lost Mom")
