BROOKFIELD
DUI
William G. Stonich, 68, of La Grange, was charged at 1:52 a.m. Feb. 8 with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop for swerving in traffic in the 8900 block of Burlington Avenue. Police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Stonich’s breath. Stonich was unable to complete field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test. He also was charged with two counts of improper lane use.
Property damage
• A punching bag was found stabbed repeatedly with a knife and a gas line and a power cord were found cut Feb. 7 at a residence in the 8900 block of Plainfield Road.
• The touch screen to a RedBox DVD rental machine was reported broken at midnight Jan. 31 at a CVS Pharmacy, 9139 Broadway Ave.
Burglary and theft
• An iPad and Samsung Galaxy Four tablet were reported stolen Feb. 4 from a residence in the 4500 block of Elm Avenue. There were no signs of forced entry.
• A silver, 1998 Chevrolet Malibu was reported stolen at 7:20 a.m. Feb. 9 from the 3200 block of Raymond Avenue.
RIVERSIDE
Riverside Brookfield student
faces aggravated battery charge
A Riverside-Brookfield High School student was charged with aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after she kicked a school official whom was trying to confiscate cigarettes from her during questioning about an earlier incident regarding her behavior.
Police were called shortly after 10 a.m. Jan. 27 to the school after Micki A. Jindra, 18, of the zero to 100 block of East Burlington Street, appeared before a counselor at the school. During a struggle for the cigarette pack, Jindra kicked one of the officials in the lower leg. She then resisted arrest by police officers.
Property damage
Eggs were reported thrown at a home Jan. 11 in the 400 block of Repton Road.
Theft
A car radio and a portable DVD player were reported stolen Jan. 30 from a vehicle in a parking lot in the 3700 block of South Harlem Avenue.
LYONS
Man beaten, gun pulled
A bartender called police at 6:18 p.m. Feb. 3 to report that a regular patron of The Smiling Goat Tavern, 8348 W. 47th St.,
was attacked by two unknown men and one of the men pulled a gun on him. The bartender told police the man left to go home and a short time after leaving she heard a noise outside. She then found the man on the ground bleeding. The man who was beaten left the bar prior to police arriving.
Theft
Anthony J. Riddle, 23, of the 3900 block of South Joliet Avenue, was charged with theft at 6:07 a.m. Feb. 6 after he was arrested in Lake County on an outstanding warrant for theft. Police said Riddle was charged with the theft of a donation jar at Stella’s, 3903 Joliet Ave., reported Dec. 12, 2014. Police reviewed video evidence from the business and identified Riddle as the person who stole the jar from the counter of the business.
Attempted vehicle burglary
Police were noticed at 11:13 a.m. Feb. 4 to the 7800 block of West 43rd Street after a report that two men had tried to burglarize a Ford Ranger pick-up truck. The vehicle’s owner said he came outside to find his parked truck and saw two men breaking the rear window. The owner yelled at them and they took off running. The owner chased the men for a short time and then went to the police department to file a report. The men were reportedly wearing black ski masks, black sweaters and blue jeans.
Man fighting at business
Police were noticed at 10:21 p.m. Feb. 5 that a man was in front of Wingstop, 3904 S. Harlem Ave., and was upset about not getting a refund. The man then started a fight with another customer. The man was sent on his way and told not to return.
Fireworks reported
Police received a complaint about multiple fireworks going off at 9:17 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 8700 block of West Plainfield Road. Police believed they may have been lit off around Elhert Park, but the area was checked an no one was seen.
