NEPONSET — Vernon Luther, 95, of Neponset passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1919, in his parents' farmhouse in Spring Green, Wis. He was the son of John B. Luther and Ella Ochsner Luther.
After graduation from Spring Green High School, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in vocational agriculture at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Upon graduation, he went to work in the War Plant in Joliet. He met his wife, Etoile Anderson Luther, in college and they married in 1944. He was a man of many vocations: he taught for 28 years at Neponset High School, where he was a vocational agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor; he sold insurance for more than 67 years; and he farmed his two farms in Spring Green, Wis., for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cheri (Gary) Knerr, Faye (John) Fischer and Lynn Miller; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one great-granddaughter.
A Service of Remembrance will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville, Wis. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Neponset Library would be greatly appreciated.
