LOMBARD – As CustomFit personal training marks its one-year anniversary at its current location in downtown Lombard, local residents are ringing in the new year with resolutions to get healthy and lose weight. And CustomFit can help.
Owner Julianne Schager said during her time in Lombard – both at 218 E. St. Charles Road and her previous site at 26 N. Park Ave. – she’s seen an influx of people who sign up for her fitness classes at the start of the year.
But unlike what other gyms may see, she hasn’t noticed a drop-off of people as they give up on their resolutions to get fit. There is usually a decline in the summer, but Schager attributes that to people’s busy summer schedules.
She said a sense of community typically develops among the members of her classes, creating more accountability for them to attend because they expect to see each other and giving them a social reason to be there as well.
“When people sign up for classes at my studio, it’s not very likely that they don’t attend,” Schager said.
Classes are taught by Schager and trainer Jenn Schindler. Several are offered at various times during the day from Monday through Saturday.
“We’re trying to hit all the different target areas when people are available to work out,” Schager said.
Schindler started at the studio since its move, allowing CustomFit to offer more classes at its current location.
Some classes include boot camp, PiYo (pilates and yoga), KidFit and more, and the fitness studio also offers personal training and nutritional guidance.
A few times a year, CustomFit hosts a 21-day food camp that includes menus centered on clean eating, which means eating nonprocessed whole foods. Schager hopes to begin the first food camp of the year, open to members of the studio, by the end of February.
While CustomFit looks to help its members stay on track with their New Year’s resolutions, the studio also plays a part in helping to develop those targets.
At the end of the year, Schager has class participants come up with at least two goals for the new year: one centered on nutrition and the other on exercise, and she has tips for those looking to do the same.
The key to staying on track with New Year’s resolutions, Schager said, is to create realistic goals that are measurable and to include timelines for the goals. She also said it’s important for people to share their resolutions with others.
“I think it’s really important to be accountable to someone,” Schager said.
