WAUCONDA – There's a new, hybrid bakery in town with an atmosphere that's hard to leave.
Whisk Bakery & Coffee shop, 216 S. Main St., Wauconda, opened Nov. 18 as a business partnership between former Stacie Cakes owner Stacie Ebel and Wauconda resident Julie Lockhart.
In the same location as Stacie Cakes, Whisk is a step up from its predecessor, Lockhart explained.
Ebel, who has been a professional chef all her life, said the re-brand move is a way for her to spend more time in the place she enjoys most – the kitchen.
Lockhart, who had been volunteering at Stacie Cakes, now runs the business operations for Whisk.
"I just love it," Lockhart said. "I've been baking ever since I was a little girl with my Easy-Bake Oven."
Lockhart said custom cinnamon rolls are a fan favorite at Whisk. The shop also serves fresh croissants, muffins, scones, cookies and rotating seasonal specialties. Some gluten-free options are available, as well as party or cookie platters for the holidays.
Coffee enthusiasts may enjoy Whisk's "Crack-uccino," a mix of coffee and espresso with a milk topper. Treats can be enjoyed sitting in the shop or taken to-go.
Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce Director Laura Ferris said she's happy to see Whisk moving in the direction of creating a coffee shop atmosphere.
"There's a really nice lounge area," Ferris said.
Lockhart said the move to re-brand "really brings more creativity and flexibility to the business."
