Carol Stream Chamber celebrates opening of Gametime Pub

CAROL STREAM – The Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce welcomed newcomer Gametime Pub with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.

The family business, a sports bar, is located at 258 County Farm Road on the border of Carol Stream and West Chicago. It opened in September under owner and Carol Stream resident Jim Panopoulos.

“He knows the community,” said chamber Executive Director Luanne Newman. “We're glad that he's part of the chamber.”

Newman said the chamber likes to see residents open businesses in Carol Stream, because it demonstrates an investment in the village.

In addition to Gametime, Panopoulos owns County Farm Square Shopping Center, which houses the pub, with his wife, Maria Panopoulos. He also sits on the Carol Stream Fire Protection District Board of Trustees.

Jim began developing the center 15 years ago under a pre-annexation agreement with the village, he said. County Farm Square was annexed into Carol Stream in June.

He also owned the Red Rooster Pantry next door to Gametime, but sold it during the summer to pursue renovating the bar.

“I decided to remodel it, expand it,” he said.

Previously home to Shanahan's Pub, Jim doubled the size of the Gametime venue by scaling back the Red Rooster. He then gutted the space, replacing the bar, televisions and furniture.

Overseeing a local watering hole is nothing new to Jim – he also operates Winner's Pub in South Elgin.

With Gametime, he hopes to provide a pleasant atmosphere and quality service for Carol Stream residents.

The bar will play all Sunday football games, as well as Blackhawks games and other sporting events. Drinks include traditional sports bar offerings, such as beers and cocktails.

Gametime doesn't serve food, but has a working relationship with Papa Saverio's Pizzeria, allowing customers to order from the restaurant and eat at the pub.
