Elmhurst Memorial names cancer center after donor

ELMHURST – An unprecedented donation has inspired Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare to rename its Center for Cancer Care "The Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center" in honor of the donor.

Hinsdale resident Nancy Knowles donated the largest commitment from a donor in the history of any of the Edward-Elmhurst Healthcare hospitals, according to a news release.

“We are overwhelmed by Nancy’s generosity,” Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare President and CEO Mary Lou Mastro said in the release. “Her support will allow us to provide critical services for our community for many, many years to come.”

Knowles has been a consistent and generous donor to the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation since the late 1980s, the release stated. For years, Knowles has provided capital and financial support for Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare programs and services through The Knowles Foundation and as an individual.

The Knowles Foundation, of which Knowles serves as president, supports a variety of causes, including the arts, culture, education, social services and health care, according to the release.

Knowles has supported Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare’s community health programs, including those focused on women’s health issues, such as the Power of Prevention initiative.
