A Joliet man found dead Tuesday at the Kankakee River State Park appears to have died from a single gunshot wound to the head, state police said Thursday.
Raymond E. Sims, 58, of Joliet was discovered about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday in a hunting area of the Kankakee River State Park off Route 113, Illinois State Police District 21 Trooper Jamie Bufford said Thursday.
A gun was found near the body. Bufford said the manner of death was “most likely suicide.”
Kankakee County Coroner Robert Gessner said his office is waiting for a toxicology report before making a final determination on the cause of death.
Sims’ family has been notified, Gessner said.
