Riverside resident goes on final tour with original members of jazz fusion band, Chase

A Riverside resident will be packing up his bass guitar, hitting the road and stepping back into the spotlight for a three-show reunion tour in Chicago this month.

Dennis Johnson of Riverside played bass and sang vocals for ’70s jazz-rock fusion band, Chase, on the group’s first two albums.

Chase scored several hits in the 1970s. They released their first, self-titled album in 1971, containing the band’s first hit and most well known song, “Get it On.” They were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist for their debut album, which also became a Certified Gold record.

Work on the band’s fourth record was put on hiatus after the death of band leader Bill Chase in a plane crash in Minnesota in 1974.

Members of the band reunited as Chase Revisited in the late ’70s to continue to play the group’s songs.

Original members of the band, including Johnson, will hit the road to Chicago for three last performances Aug. 29 and 30 at Reggie’s Rock Club, 2015 S. State St., Chicago.

Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on both dates, and at 3 p.m. Aug. 30 for an all-ages show.
